Casting in the Altmark: Getting Started, Travel and Discretion

Casting in the Altmark does not mean that you have to move to a major city to get started. Applications and initial interviews can take place online from Stendal, Salzwedel or a smaller town, while castings and shoots are scheduled in Berlin or Hanover.

Altmark between the Elbe, Wendland and Magdeburger Börde

Between the Elbe, Drawehn, Magdeburger Börde and Wendland, the Altmark extends across the north of Sachsen-Anhalt and is historically known as the “cradle of Brandenburg.” The region includes the Altmarkkreis Salzwedel and the Landkreis Stendal. Adults aged 18 and over from Stendal, Salzwedel, Gardelegen, Tangermünde, Osterburg, Havelberg and the surrounding area may apply. On 30.10.2026, there is no job available directly in the Altmark. Applications and introductions take place online or by video; castings and shoots are held in Berlin or Hannover.

Travel costs and scheduling for the Altmark

Until you have received an assignment, you will generally have to cover the journey from the Altmark to the casting yourself, in accordance with the information on travel expenses. For longer journeys, use the video call to clarify as much as possible. Agree on travel costs for the shoot before accepting. If a same-day return journey is unreasonable, the production usually pays for travel and accommodation; short journeys are generally covered by the daily fee.

Salzwedel–Hannover and Stendal–Berlin are comparatively shorter connections, while Salzwedel–Berlin is relatively long. This does not constitute a promise to cover costs. Keep agreements in writing and state in your application how far you would travel and whether an overnight stay would be possible.

Working from home, fees and safety in the Altmark

Without travelling, you can work from home in the Altmark via a location-independent webcam job. The fee depends on the production, scope and agreement; the earnings calculator provides guidance. Only adults aged 18 and over may participate. Before every casting, your identity card or passport is checked. Casting and filming take place exclusively in a studio or booked location, never in private homes. You may bring someone with you and stop at any time. Follow the safety rules for castings.

Health and testing services in Stendal

The Gesundheitsamt des Landkreises Stendal (public health office of the Stendal district) at Wendstraße 30 in Stendal offers free, anonymous and confidential advice and testing for HIV, syphilis, gonorrhoea, chlamydia and urogenital mycoplasmas. The Zentrum für sexuelle Gesundheit der Aidshilfe Sachsen-Anhalt Nord (Centre for Sexual Health of the Northern Sachsen-Anhalt AIDS service organisation) in Magdeburg is also responsible for both Altmark districts. Arrange an appointment in advance and check the consultation hours on the district’s website.

Gesundheitsämter (public health offices) provide advice and testing for STIs under § 19 Infektionsschutzgesetz, including anonymously where there is an increased risk. On set, the STI panel paid for by the production may be no more than 14 to 30 days old. Condoms are mandatory for vaginal and anal intercourse. Anonymous tests without a written report do not count as a production panel. Details can be found under health on set.

Business registration and the tax office in the Altmark

Anyone who operates a webcam business or creates their own content commercially must register the business with the Einheitsgemeinde or Verbandsgemeinde, or with the city in Stendal or Salzwedel. This is followed by the tax registration questionnaire via ELSTER. For income tax purposes, under § 19 AO, the Finanzamt (tax office) responsible is the one at your place of residence; the relevant office can be identified using the official BZSt tax office search. The guide business registration and taxes explains more.

Discretion in small towns in the Altmark

In the sparsely populated Altmark, with its many villages, departing from a small railway station may attract more attention than travelling by car. On Tuesday, 3 November 2026, there is no direct ICE from Stendal to Berlin; allow time for changes and a buffer. In terms of transport, Salzwedel is closer to Hannover than to Berlin. Practical advice is available in staying discreet in a small town.

Student side job at the Stendal campus

At the Stendal campus of Hochschule Magdeburg-Stendal, adult students can coordinate an adult side job with their studies, BAföG, health insurance and taxes. The consequences depend on the work and personal circumstances. The guide student side jobs provides an overview.
