Video ID Verification
A procedure in which identity and age are checked during a video call using an official identity document held next to the person’s face.
Video ID Verification is a procedure in which a person proves their identity and age during a video call by holding an official identity document next to their face, allowing the verifying party to compare the document and the person live. Banks use it to open accounts; in the adult industry, it is primarily used to ensure that all participants are of legal age and really are who they claim to be.
How a verification works
- Arrange an appointment, usually via a messenger with video functionality or the verification service’s platform
- Hold your ID next to your face, show the front and back, and tilt the document slightly so that security features are visible
- Answer short questions or perform movements to make clear that a real person is sitting live in front of the camera
- Receive the result: approved or rejected
Accepted documents are an identity card or passport. A driver’s license is not sufficient because it is not a full identity document.
Online version with liveness detection
Instead of speaking with a person, automated procedures are available: You photograph your ID and record a short selfie video. Software checks whether the document is genuine, compares the face, and detects whether a live person has been recorded rather than a photo or Deepfake. This liveness detection is called a Liveness Check in technical terminology. Biometric data is processed in this process, for which explicit consent is required.
What is stored
This agency does not record the video call, take screenshots, or store a copy of your ID. Only the result, date, method, and confirmation of legal age according to the ID are recorded. At most, a note that a profile is verified appears publicly. With automated services, the service provider processes ID images and biometric data on behalf of the controller and deletes them after an agreed period.
Productions have their own obligations to document the age of all participants; see Proof of Age.
How to recognize a fake request
Scammers use supposed verifications to obtain ID images or intimate recordings. Warning signs include requests from unknown numbers without prior contact through the official website, a request to send ID photos via messenger, recordings that supposedly have to be stored, or a demand to undress during the verification. A genuine identity check does not require any of this.
How long a result is valid
A verification is not recognized forever. For this agency, a result is valid for 24 months; after that, it is marked as expired and can be renewed. Platforms have their own time limits and often ask again when account details change.
Stay safe during the verification
- Start a verification only through your account or the official website.
- Check who is carrying out the verification and where the data is processed.
- If you ever have to send copies of your ID, cover any unnecessary data and mark the purpose.
- Keep the confirmation of the result.
