Fake Casting

A staged casting with no real production behind it, intended to defraud people of money, recordings, or sexual acts.

A fake casting is a staged audition with no real production behind it, instead serving to take money, intimate recordings, or sexual acts from applicants. The setting looks like it belongs to the industry, but the purpose has nothing to do with casting.

Perpetrators exploit the fact that beginners do not know how a real casting works. Anyone who has never attended one may consider many things normal that are ruled out in reputable productions.

Initial contact often takes place through social networks, classified ads, or direct messages, occasionally using the name of an existing agency or production. Therefore, check whether the contact address really belongs to the stated company, and if in doubt, ask via the company’s official website whether the inquiry is genuine. This also applies to messages claiming to represent our agency.

What a real casting with us looks like

The meeting takes place in a studio or booked location, never in a private home. At least three people are present, and you may bring your own companion. There are no sexual acts during the casting. You pay nothing, either before or afterward, and you receive a response to your application within 48 hours, even if it is a rejection. The sequence of the steps is explained under Process.

The typical patterns

  • The location. Meetings in an apartment, hotel room, or car, alone with one person.
  • The test scene. You are asked to perform a “test” involving sexual acts, allegedly to assess your suitability. No reputable casting works this way.
  • The money. Fees for a database listing, photos, or processing, often as upfront payment before the first appointment.
  • The recordings. You are filmed, but there is no contract, consent form, or proof of age. The material later ends up online without prior agreement.
  • The identity. No legal notice, no company address, contact only via messenger, and names that cannot be verified.
  • The pressure. Offers are valid only today, a companion is unwelcome, and questions are treated as distrust.

The article How to recognize dubious offers summarizes additional points to check.

If it has already happened

Shame is the most common reaction and at the same time the perpetrators’ greatest advantage. If you have been deceived, you have done nothing wrong, even if you initially went along because you believed it was a real casting. Save messages, advertisements, profile names, addresses, and payment receipts before accounts are deleted. If recordings were made, the following applies: Publishing intimate images without valid consent may be a criminal offense, and consent obtained through deception does not authorize distribution. You can file a report with the police, including online. Counseling centers for sexualized and digital violence can help you decide what to do and accompany you if you wish.

Check beforehand instead of regretting it afterward

Before every appointment, ask in writing for the company, address, location, and the people who will be present. Bring a trusted person, or at least share the address and time with someone who will contact you if you do not check back in. A provider unwilling to answer these questions has already given you an answer.

An open question about this?

Terms explain the what, but not always how it applies to your own situation. If you want to know what this specifically means for you, ask us — it does not have to become an application. Many answers can already be found in the frequently asked questions.
