Additional Income with Citizen’s Benefit: How Much of Your Fee Remains?

With citizen’s benefit additional income, you must report production fees and platform income to the job centre. Part of your income may remain exempt from assessment, while the rest reduces your benefit. You should clarify the currently applicable rules directly with the job centre before accepting a booking.

Why you do not keep the entire fee

Citizen’s benefit is intended to secure the necessary cost of living. If you earn additional income, the job centre takes it into account when calculating your entitlement. There are allowances, however, so earned income is not generally assessed in full.

Specific amounts cannot be stated reliably in a general guide. Allowances, calculation levels, and the rules governing basic income support may change as a result of reforms. The outcome also depends on your personal circumstances, the approval period, and the type of income.

What matters, therefore, is not only the amount of an individual fee. The time the money is received, other income, and whether you are employed or self-employed are also relevant. A realistic assessment of short-term income helps you avoid planning to spend payments in full too quickly.

Employment and self-employment are treated differently

With dependent employment, you will normally receive a payslip from the employer or production company. The job centre may request these documents as well as bank statements or proof of payment. The applicable allowances are deducted from the earned income taken into account.

With self-employment, the calculation is more complex. In simplified terms, business income is compared with necessary business expenses. Not every expense you personally consider reasonable will automatically be recognized by the job centre.

For fluctuating self-employed income, the job centre often initially works with an estimate. A provisional approval may be granted on this basis. After the relevant period, the actual income and recognized expenses are settled, which may result in an additional payment or a repayment claim.

You should therefore keep contracts, invoices, statements, bank statements, and receipts organized. For creators, an overview of the income-surplus calculation can help with documentation. However, tax profit calculation and the job centre’s calculation do not serve exactly the same purpose in every respect.

You can find a basic overview of business registration, invoices, and charges under Self-employment, business registration, and taxes. If you are unsure, you should ask both the job centre and a qualified advice center.

Report income early and in a traceable manner

Report a new activity and expected income as early as possible. Do not wait for the job centre to notice a payment in your account. Irregular fees, platform payments, and one-off bookings may also be relevant to the benefit calculation.

State truthfully whether you are accepting a single booking or establishing an ongoing self-employed activity. Submit requested documents by the deadline and keep a copy of your notification. If you submit it digitally, you should also retain proof of sending or receipt.

Platform balances and actual payments may occur at different times. You should therefore document when income arose, when the platform paid it out, and which fees were withheld. The job centre decides, under the current rules, which date and amounts are taken into account.

If the expected amount changes significantly, you should report that as well. This applies, for example, if a production is canceled, you accept additional bookings, or platform income fluctuates substantially. An early correction can reduce later uncertainties.

Example earnings for a single filming day

For a video production, the fee is between 400 and 1.200 euros per filming day according to the ranges used on this website. This amount does not automatically equal the money that will remain permanently available to you in addition to citizen’s benefit. The job centre applies the relevant allowances and assesses the remaining amount based on your individual circumstances.

You can use the production earnings calculator to estimate how different bookings initially add up. The result is not a calculation of your citizen’s benefit entitlement. Also bear in mind that payment is made by bank transfer within 14 days with a statement, not in cash.

There is no fixed daily fee for webcam activities. Revenue sharing is customary, with platform payout rates ranging from 25 to 90 percent. Such income may also have to be reported and should be supported by platform statements.

Remain discreet without concealing the activity

You do not have to describe your activity in unnecessary detail or in a way that makes you uncomfortable. A neutral designation such as content production, modeling, performing activity, or digital media production may be suitable. However, the designation must truthfully reflect the actual content.

The distinction between discretion and false information is important. Concealing income, routing payments through other accounts, or presenting self-employment as a private gift may result in repayment claims and further legal consequences. If you are unsure, clarify before the first payment which information and documents are required.

The question of who will learn about your activity may also arise outside the job centre. The article Discretion when working in the adult industry explains typical points of contact. For regional opportunities, you can also use the overview by region without giving up your boundaries or privacy for a booking.

Safety and clear boundaries apply to every assignment

Intermediation is available only from age 18; this is verified with a valid identity card or passport, while a driver’s license is not sufficient. Without a valid document, there is neither a casting nor a shoot. A casting takes place only in a studio or booked location, never in a private home.

Your yes-no-maybe list with 87 possible filming activities is part of the agreement. Anything you have excluded will not be requested, even for a higher amount. You may stop at any time, and if you stop for safety reasons, the daily fee remains payable.

Condom use is mandatory without exception during vaginal and anal intercourse, regardless of test results. A required STI panel may not be older than 14 to 30 days on the filming day; the production covers the cost. You can find further requirements in the overview of safety during casting and production.

Applications, interviews, castings, intermediation, and contract reviews are free of charge for performers. Productions pay the brokerage commission agreed in writing in advance, not you. If these conditions suit you, you can apply free of charge as a performer.

Frequently asked questions about fees and citizen’s benefit

Do I have to report even a single fee?

Even a one-off payment may be relevant to your entitlement. Report it to the job centre and provide the statement and proof of payment instead of deciding yourself that the amount is too small or too irregular.

How much of my fee am I allowed to keep?

Part of earned income may remain exempt from assessment under the applicable allowances. No generally valid amount can be stated because the rules may change and your individual benefit calculation is decisive.

What happens with fluctuating income?

For self-employed people, the job centre may initially work with a forecast and set the benefit provisionally. After the actual income and recognized expenses are settled later, your entitlement may change retroactively.

Can I deduct travel costs and other expenses?

Necessary business expenses may be taken into account for self-employed income. The job centre decides whether a specific expense is recognized under the current requirements, so you should keep receipts and clarify larger expenses in advance.

Do I have to explicitly state that adult work is my industry to the job centre?

You may describe the activity factually and neutrally, for example as modeling or content production, provided this is truthful. If a form or follow-up question requests more specific information, you should not provide false or incomplete details.

Where can I get independent help with the calculation?

Social advice centers and unemployment advice centers offer general support. For tax questions concerning self-employment, appropriately qualified advice is advisable; if you are unclear about the benefit calculation, the responsible job centre remains the first point of contact.

Do not allocate fees entirely to ongoing expenses while the assessment remains unclear. By reporting early, keeping complete records, and maintaining a realistic reserve, you will be better prepared for a later settlement.
