Token

A platform-specific currency on webcam sites that viewers buy with money and give to models, who can have them paid out at a fixed euro exchange rate.

Tokens, also called credits or coins depending on the platform, are a platform-specific currency on many webcam sites: viewers buy them with real money and give them to models, for example as tips or for private formats, and the models can have the collected tokens paid out at a fixed euro exchange rate.

Why platforms use tokens

Tokens simplify small payments and separate purchasing from spending. Viewers buy a package, often with a volume discount, and then distribute the tokens in small increments. For the platform, this means advance payment and an additional source of revenue through the difference between the purchase price and the payout rate.

How tokens become money

Two figures are decisive: the price viewers pay per token and the amount you receive per token. The difference is the platform’s share and, where applicable, a studio’s share. This results in the payout rate, which ranges from 25 to 90 percent on webcam platforms, depending on the provider and model. Because tokens cost different amounts depending on the package size, the rate cannot always be calculated exactly; the fixed payout rate in the model area is decisive.

If you work through a webcam studio, the platform, the studio, and you share the revenue. Have the studio provide written confirmation of the basis on which it calculates its share.

Payouts

Platforms pay out at fixed intervals, often weekly or every two weeks, and frequently only once a minimum amount has been reached. These rules are listed under payout interval. Fees for bank transfers, currency conversion, or specific payment methods further reduce the amount.

Taxes and documentation

For the tax office, what matters is not the tokens but the euros that flow to you. Keep the platform’s payout statements in full. They document income, fees, and dates and form the basis for the income-surplus calculation. Whether VAT applies to the income depends on your status and the platform’s registered office; tax advice is advisable for this.

Your own prices and boundaries

Many platforms allow models to set their own prices in tokens for private formats, custom requests, or messages. The same rule applies as with any fee: boundaries come before revenue. Decide in advance what you offer and what you do not, and stick to it even when high token amounts are offered. Anyone who constantly works below their worth to retain more viewers ultimately earns less and becomes exhausted more quickly.

Comparing platforms properly

  • Do not compare platforms based on token prices, but on the payout rate per token.
  • Check the minimum amount, payout schedule, and fees before getting started.
  • Do not accept payments outside the platform; they are usually prohibited and offer no protection.
  • Expect fluctuating income and set aside reserves.
