Geoblocking

Geoblocking blocks access to a title for certain countries or regions. The assignment is made from the visitor’s IP address: anyone coming from a German address sees a block message instead of the video. In erotic production this is an instrument of self-protection.

How it enters the contract

Geoblocking is not an extra service; it is a restriction of the exploitation rights granted. The contract either names the territories in which use is allowed, or the territories that are excluded. Exclusion of the German-speaking area is common; exclusion of a single region or city is rarer and harder to enforce.

For the clause to be worth anything it has to settle three things: which territories are blocked, which channels the block applies to, and what happens if the material is passed to partner sites. A block that applies only to the production’s own website, while the material goes to distributors in parallel, is a half block.

What the block costs

A territorial exclusion shrinks the market for the material. German-speaking viewers are the main audience for a German production, and anyone who excludes them sells less. Expect a production to offer a lower day rate, to want the exclusion time-limited, or to refuse it altogether.

That arithmetic is legitimate and not a sign of unreliability. It belongs on the table before anyone signs, not after. Anyone who needs the exclusion should bring it into the negotiation early and not add it as a last condition.

Where the protection ends

The block stops nobody who wants to get around it. A VPN service moves the visitor’s apparent origin to another country and makes the geoblocking pointless in seconds. That is neither complicated nor expensive, and anyone looking for you specifically will find that route.

The second limit matters more: the block binds only the contracting party. It does not apply to copies that land on third-party sites, because nobody there knows your contract. Preview images in search results, downloads and screen recordings also sit outside the technology. Geoblocking therefore lowers the chance of a chance find in your surroundings. It does not stop someone who is determined from finding you.

What belongs beside it

Treat the territorial block as one measure among several. A stage name that is not linked to your legal name works more strongly in the long run, because it travels with copies as well.
