Requirements as a porn performer: what counts and what does not

The most common question before the first application is whether one has “the right type”. The answer disappoints everyone who expects a list of measurements: that type does not exist. Productions cast on concrete enquiries, and the enquiries are as different as the audience that later sees the films. What actually decides on a placement has less to do with looks than with reliability, clear limits and the willingness to carry the organisational side yourself. Here stand the requirements as a porn performer that count in practice — and the points that despite their reputation play no role.

Two points are not negotiable

You have to be of legal age and prove that with a valid identity card or passport. A driving licence is not enough, because it does not fulfil the statutory documentation duty. Without this document no casting takes place and no shoot, independently of how well everything else fits.

The second point is the willingness to regular tests. Before every shoot an STI-Panel has to be proved that on the shoot day is no older than 14 to 30 days; the costs are borne by the production. Anyone who fundamentally does not want to work with that cannot shoot in this field. What productions actually assess

When a production sends us an enquiry, usually only an approximate direction on looks stands in it. What plays a role every time, by contrast, is this list.

• Reliability. The most strongly underestimated point. Anyone who keeps accepted dates, appears on time and cancels if something comes up is booked again. A cancellation two hours before the start of shooting costs a production a complete day with team, location and technique.
• Stamina over long shoot days. A shoot day often lasts eight to twelve hours, a considerable part of that waiting, resetting and repeating. Anyone who becomes impatient after three hours has a hard time — and that is not noticed from the build, but from the behaviour.
• Clear own limits. An application that states what you do and what you do not is easier to cast than one that leaves everything open. Limits are not an objection against you, but a planning basis. How you sort them is in our article on the Yes-No-Maybe list.
• Reachability and readable answers. Enquiries come with short notice. Anyone who answers within a day is on the list; anyone who answers after a week finds the role filled.
• Self-employed billing. You do not work as an employee, but issue invoices and tax the profit yourself. That does not have to be fully set up before the application, but before the first shoot you should have understood what is coming. The outlines are in our article on business and taxes.

What is missing from this list is self-presentation. You do not have to be able to sell yourself. A factual application with clear facts on availability, region and limits is more usable for the placement than one that carries enthusiasm and no facts.

What does not count

The following points appear in almost every discussion about the start. In the enquiries we receive they almost never play a role.

• Clothing size. There are enquiries for almost every build. A size that would count as a norm does not exist in this market.
• Prior experience. Every performer started once without experience. Productions that cast newcomers plan more time for that and explain more. What that means in practice is on our page on starting without experience.
• Acting training. Shooting happens in short sections with many interruptions. What is asked for is repeatability, not stage presence.
• Tattoos and piercings. They are a feature, not an exclusion. They are relevant only if a production needs a certain look — and then just as often in one direction as in the other.
• Bust size. It stands in some enquiries, in many not. As a general requirement it does not exist.

Why atypical often means: in demand

Most applications come from women between 20 and 28 with a rather conventional appearance. Exactly this profile is therefore the fastest to fill. Enquiries that deviate from it regularly stay open longer: over 35, very tall, very small, sturdy, very slim, heavily tattooed, with grey hair, with a visible disability.

From that follows a calculation that surprises many: anyone who does not match the most common profile often has the better chances of a placement, because they have less competition. Reliable market figures for that do not exist for Germany — that is our observation from the placement, and it is the reason we expressly want applications off the mainstream.

That also affects the application itself. A feature you take for a disadvantage is in a concrete enquiry often exactly what is sought. So write down what distinguishes you instead of covering it: large tattoos, grey hair, an unusual build, glasses, a strong dialect. We can only offer what we know.

Where applications really fail

Not on looks. The three most common reasons for a refusal with us are missing identity documents, unclear facts on availability and expectations of the money that do not meet the real fees. All three could have been settled beforehand.

The fourth reason is more delicate: if in the conversation the impression arises that someone is accepting out of financial need and in doing so crossing limits they actually have, we do not place. That is not a judgement of the person, but a decision that protects you from an experience that cannot be taken back.

And a fifth reason does not lie with you at all: sometimes for weeks simply no enquiry fits. Then a complete application sits without a date, because the productions in that period are casting something else. That is not a judgement, and it changes with the next enquiry.

What you should settle before sending

Three questions nobody can take off you. First: what happens if someone from your surroundings finds the material? Not how you prevent it, but what then concretely happens. Second: which acts are excluded for you, independently of the fee? Third: how many days a month do you actually have free, and do they fall on working days?
