Sedcard
The compact working document with which an agency presents you to productions: stage name, key data, region and a few telling pictures.
A one-page overview with the facts a production needs for the cast, plus a small picture selection. It is not a portfolio and not a self-presentation, but a working tool: anyone who casts sees several dozen of them in a day and decides in seconds whether someone fits the enquiry.
What belongs on it
- Stage name. The name you work under — not the one from the ID.
- Body measurements. Height, clothing size, shoe size. Correct, not flattered: on set wardrobe is standing that has to fit.
- Hair and eye colour. With dyed hair the current state, not that of the last booking.
- Languages. With an honest level. “Fluent English” means you understand direction instructions in English.
- Region and willingness to travel. Productions plan by travel.
- Contact through the agency. One address for all enquiries.
- Three to five pictures. Portrait, full body, one to three more that show how you work in front of the camera.
What never stands on it
No private address, no ID name, no private phone number, no private mail address, no social-media profiles with a personal connection. And no prices. The fee is negotiated per booking and hangs on scope, duration and usage rights — a figure on the Sedcard takes every bargaining position from you and also looks unprofessional.
The reason for the restraint is practical: a Sedcard is passed on. It goes by mail to productions, to direction, to wardrobe, occasionally to third parties. Every fact on it eventually leaves your sphere of influence. That is also the core of the right to one’s own image, which only reaches as far as you have not released it yourself.
Why current is more important than perfect
The most common mistake is elaborately edited pictures that are two years old. If you look different on the shoot day from the Sedcard, the production has a problem with continuity and you have one with credibility. In the worst case there is a recast and the day falls away.
An unedited picture from last week therefore beats every retouched one from the day before yesterday. Update after every visible change: new hair colour, new cut, new tattoo, a clear change in weight. What makes a usable picture is in the article on application photos that work.
The picture rights belong clarified as well
Pictures that arose on a production you may not automatically use for your Sedcard. Whether that is allowed stands in the Model Release or in the model contract. In doubt ask for a written release — an oral promise on set will not help you later.
How you proceed in practice
